This year at the amazing Into the Valley festival in Sweden we had the chance to talk to one of the early innovators of Chicago House music, the legendary Jamie Principle. After enjoying his magical live performance where we felt transported back to the beginnings of the raw house in the 80s, we met up with Jamie and his manager Maria from NY based Def Mix records. The two of them welcomed us warmly and we felt like being friends all over the interview. To start with, we passed Jamie our questions and gave him the freedom to speak about whatever comes to his mind, and so he started to tell us his very unique history…

Lisbon, certainly one of Southern Europe’s cultural centers, is in constant movement. This can be seen, for instance, by one of the festivals that the city hosts this week in the famous MusicBox. We are speaking about Jameson Urban Routes, an urban music festival established 7 years ago that seeks to bring many upcoming talents and already known ones on stage, from an alternative background and without limitations in their style of music.
The 2017 edition of the Italian electronic and experimental music festival FAT FAT FATrun by the Italian collective Harmonized Soundsystem has again exceeded all expectations. From August 4-6 we experienced the mix of musical quality and an unbelievable setting between the historical piazza of the medieval town Morrovalle and a beautiful old farm site in Corridonia, on the Adriatic coast of Italy. This festival convinced in his only second edition with a high-end line up including the likes of the Yussef Kamaal Trio, Nightmares on Wax, Funkineven, the incredible Jayda G or the producer-collector Awesome Tapes from Africa. Continuing on this track it will be no wonder to soon find the FAT FAT FAT among the best-curated alternative electronic music festivals in Europe.
Already in its second edition, the FAT FAT FAT Festivalorganised by the Italian electronic music collective Harmonized seems like it will have a bright future to come. Taking place between August 4 – 6 in the romantic region around the small historic towns of Corridonia and Morrovalle, some 20kms away from the Eastern Adriatic Coast in Italy, the setting is one of its charms – but not only.
We from World is Music have prepared a cozy and sweet warm up mix for the Fat Fat Fat. Expect a selection of tracks from many of the artists who are going this year. You will find some smooth jazz, disco, house and even techno in this mixtape for one of the best events of this year…
Just before their first concert in Madrid, we met Henry Wu and the Kamaal Williams Ensemble at the Fundación Telefónica. The guys received us with an amazing openness and we spent the very last minutes before they went on stage chatting about their music, their impression of the Peckham scene and simply about life. We discovered that some of the guys are already dads and the three had already known each other for many years before starting this new project together: The Kamaal Ensemble with MckNasty on the drums, Tom Driessler on the bass, and last but not least, Henry Wu aka Kamaal Williams on the keyboard and synths. Yet, the Ensemble is open to collaborations with other musicians, like Tenderlonius joining them for some of their gigs in London.
Already since 2006 the city of Bilbao is host to one of the biggest and well-curated independent music festivals in Spain: the BBK Live, rated the “Best Foreign Festival” at the UK Festival Awards in 2010 and 2011. Taking place in the Basque capital on the Northern Atlantic coast, the BBK Live is host to a wide range of internationally recognised artists and offers an eclectic mix between alternative rock, indie and recently an electronic music stage in the forest, too.
On its stages we have seen big names such as New Order, Tame Impala, Hot Chip, Floating Points, Chvrches, Junior Boys, Four Tet, The Cure, Alt-J, Julio Bashmore or SBTRKT.
From July 6th – 8th you will have the chance to experience the 12th edition of this festival, and we assure you that it seems more than promising…
